In two weeks we habeas crossed the causses de sauveterre and the causse mean to meyreuis. the causses were limestone plateau with early spring flowers and many birds. the latter were big (vultures) and small (nightingale). Even with flower and bird apps it was hard to identify many local species. the weather easy cold and on mt aigoual there was snow. these are steep slopes and within a short distance we were back in mild valleys. the last day in their cevennes mountains was a spectacular ridge walk with views yo snowy peaks of the massif centrale and to the east mt ventoux. the descent to the lower ground introduced us to the first of many rocky paths of Gard Province.
Colin and Linda Sounds like a challenging but enjoyable trip. You have missed the wet weather here but fortunately no flooding in our road. Continue to enjoy your holiday. Look forward to seeing the photos in due course.
The gard region stretches from cevennes to the rhone river and includes mountains and vineyards as well as the rhone. top attraction is pont du gard built by the Romans to take water to nimes and still there and looking functional. second to this are the delicious nimes strawberries which are appellation controlled and well worth it. even i, a non strawberry eater loved them. vineyards are dominated by the nimes wine zone with a good rose. the ways are well marked and maintained. one black spot is the appalling fly tipping of rubbish even in the rivers which seems quite unmanaged.
